⚡ Power for the Lamp Base, Not Just the LED

A cordless desk lamp has to balance lighting output with the limited space inside its base. The battery shares that space with the LED driver, charging circuit, controls and mechanical structure. This design uses two 18650 Li-ion cells in a side-by-side 2S1P configuration, creating a 7.4V nominal pack with 2600mAh capacity and 19.24Wh nominal energy. The target finished envelope is about 67 x 37 x 20 mm. PVC heat-shrink keeps the package adaptable, while the protection board and cable path are positioned around the actual host layout.

🛡️ Protection, Charging and Complete-Lamp Thinking

A 7.4V Li-ion battery is only one part of the lighting system. The host requires an appropriate charger and LED driver, with the battery protection design matched to the selected cell. The pack can use 2S PCM/BMS protection for over-charge, over-discharge, over-current and short-circuit control, with optional 10k ohm NTC temperature sensing. Finished battery validation can cover capacity, DC resistance, charge and discharge behavior, protection response, vibration, drop and thermal testing. IEC 62133-2:2017 plus AMD1:2021 provides the principal portable lithium battery safety reference. UN38.3 applies to relevant transport testing, while IEC 60598-1:2024 is relevant to the finished luminaire where applicable.

What charger does a 7.4V Li-ion pack require?

The 2S pack requires a lithium charging system designed for an 8.4V full-charge voltage and the correct CC/CV charging profile.

Does 2S double the 2600mAh capacity?

No. Series connection raises the voltage while the amp-hour capacity remains 2600mAh.

Can the battery directly drive the LED?

The battery normally supplies the system input. The host LED driver should regulate the LED current.

Can the pack be made thinner?

Mechanical optimization is possible through cell arrangement, protection-board placement, cable routing and connector selection.

Is 19.24Wh the actual runtime?
